Swiss Pairs

Scoring Swiss Pairs

Physical Setup and running of the event

Remember that Swiss Pairs require a whole number of tables, but do not require an even number of tables. It is important to have the same number of pairs each session, though there is facility to add pairs in, they must come in 2 pairs at a time and preferably of similar ability.

Setting Up BridgePads

The setup is similar to Teams.

You can do an automatic draw and tell the players where to sit if you have all the names before you start, or you can do a manual draw setting the NS pairs to the table number, and EW pairs to table number + total number of tables. When players are seated (after being shuffled a little by the Director), they fill out a table slip and the names can be entered during the first round.

Scorer cannot load the names for Swiss Pairs from the BridgePad database currently, and there is no allowance for Substitutes.

The important points are:

  1. Ensure that you have the correct starting board for each round.
  2. Remind players to check not only the TABLE that they are seated at, but also the DIRECTION they should be sitting.
  3. Ensure that players complete each round on the BridgePad and the BridgePads are back at the Welcome screen for the start of the next round.
  4. Remind players to check not only the TABLE that they are seated at, but also the DIRECTION they should be sitting.
  5. Turn off the Player membership # option as this is not currently used for anything.
  6. Remind players to check not only the TABLE that they are seated at, but also the DIRECTION they should be sitting.
  7. Encourage players to enter scores as they finish the boards - some are notorious for wanting to enter them all at the end!
  8. Turn off the EW Security Code after round 1
  9. Remind players to check not only the TABLE that they are seated at, but also the DIRECTION they should be sitting.
  10. Ensure that all boards eligible to be played are completed before uploading results.

After Round 1, the EW Security codes should be removed as these do not work currently.

At the end of the Round

When all boards are completed click on "Upload from Server"

You can then click on Results and print out the match results and the overall ranking.

Go back and do the Draw for the next round and post that.

Go into Enter Scores for the round completed and "Print all Boards" . This printout will have the Datums on the bottom row. The players are particularly interested in this printout and usually like to have the Datums read out before the start of the next round.
